Denis Ryan

Director of Studies and Teacher

I graduated from UCD in 2006 with a Master's degree in European Studies. Teaching English as a second language is something I was always attracted to both in my undergraduate degree and later in UCD. As a result I completed a Cambridge C.E.L.T.A. in Dublin in 2004. I have spent endless hours in the classroom myself learning Spanish and Polish, as a result I am all too aware of the challenges a new language presents. Learning a language is both a rewarding and challenging experience and I try to deliver every lesson in a manner that respects the individual learner’s needs.
Outside the classroom I try to hike or kayak whenever the weather permits. Other hobbies include reading and archaeology. Having spent a number of years teaching in various schools and Universities across Poland, Spain and now Dublin, I feel Working English – Language School gives the student exceptional value. With small class sizes and a friendly yet professional atmosphere I have no hesitation in recommending a visit.
Contact me if you have any queries and I would be more than happy to assist in any way possible.

Kasia

Teacher

My career as an English language teacher started in 2000 – I have gained extensive experience while working in schools and colleges of different kinds in Poland, England and Ireland. In Poland I was given the opportunity to work as a teacher and Cambridge ESOL exam invigilator for the British Council Examination Centre. I also thoroughly enjoyed the experience of teaching English to groups of multi-national teenagers while working on language summer camps in England.

As for my qualifications, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and T.E.F.L. (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and a Master’s degree in English Philology.

For the last five years I have pursued my T.E.F.L. career in Ireland. I worked in a number of colleges and schools teaching and lecturing most notably in the European Business School – Dublin, where I taught Business Communication Skills.

Why do I like teaching English?
I have been a teacher at Working English – Language School since 2006 and really enjoy the atmosphere at the school. I constantly learn about other cultures and meet interesting individuals keen to learn English. Above all, motivating students and watching them progress from a low to an independent communicative level is the most rewarding and self-fulfilling element of teaching a foreign language.

I have been attending Spanish classes for one and a half years, which gives me a greater chance to perceive the challenges which both teachers and students of foreign languages must meet.

Besides being fascinated with languages, I'm interested in fashion and dressmaking. I love hiking, skiing, swimming and fitness classes.  Dancing, especially Salsa, socialising and travelling are also amongst my favourite pastimes.

I have spent some years living abroad, in countries where English was not the first language, and sometimes where English was not spoken at all. I've spent a year travelling through India and Asia, learning the absolute basics of a new language every few weeks, and I've lived and worked in Greece, where I had the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of one language. For me, basic communication in a foreign tongue felt like a success but gaining a deeper understanding always opened many more doors so I understand that learning a new language is both an exciting and a demanding time.

After my graduation from
Trinity College, I taught in both primary schools and music schools here in Dublin and I gained experience in a wide range of teaching situations. I completed my TEFL Certificate in 2004 and since then have been involved in teaching General English, Examination Preparation and Business English.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing music (traditional Irish music), reading (anything I can get my hands on) and yoga (though I'm not as disciplined as I'd like!).

Louisa

Teacher

I originally trained in London and have been teaching English for over ten years. I enjoy the opportunity it gives me to meet people from all over the world, and to be creative and use music and drama in my classes.

In my spare time my interests include dancing (Tango and Salsa), learning to play the guitar, and walking by the sea and in the hills around Dublin.

Ian

Teacher

I began my teaching English in 2007 where I spent a year living and working in Japan. When I returned I completed my TEFL Certificate and have been teaching in Ireland since then.

I find teaching English both challenging and rewarding and realise the importance of languages in life as they can open many doors in your career. However I also know how enjoyable learning a language can be! It can be difficult to learn a language but if you are dedicated you can do it! The students I have met in Working English have always been extremely motivated and have progressed quickly, and it is fantastic to see students achieving their language goals.

In my spare time I like playing soccer, running and playing guitar.
Working English is a fantastic school. The location, small class sizes and friendly staff make this one of the best schools I have ever worked in.
