General Business English course involves a wide range of topics related to the contemporary, rapidly changing world of business.   It is ideal for people who:

  • are thinking of starting their own business
  • are already running a business
  • want to increase their career prospects
  • plan to take one of the BEC (Business English Certificate) or BULATS (Business Language Testing Service) exams more info
  • are interested in this area

Course Objectives:

To enlarge business knowledge and develop essential business communication skills such as negotiating, making presentations, describing trends using graphs and figures, managing telephone calls, taking part in meetings, using English for customer service etc.

  • Interactive teaching approach focusing on communication and students’ participation
  • The course covers 4 main skills:

    • reading:
      focus on important business English vocabulary, reading-based discussions, case studies (realistic business problems and situations analysis); text books and authentic materials used
    • writing:
      business/office correspondence writing: email, report, formal business letter, designing promotional literature (brochure, leaflet, flyer), CV, letter of application, business plan option
    • listening:
      audio materials include authentic interviews with businesspeople
    • speaking:
      debating, speeches, small presentations etc with a focus on pronunciation and intonation
  • The course books used include stimulating and authentic articles as well as grammar, vocabulary, listening and speaking activities. They are also supplemented with other teaching resources such as business role-plays, up-to-date materials from various newspapers and magazines, e.g. the Financial Times, The Economist, The Irish Times etc.
  • continuous assessment and regular progress tests
  • Certificate of attendance and level awarded to students who have a minimum of 80% class attendance, and score the minimum average of 60% in their progress tests

  • To fully cover the programme of this course please be advised that it takes about 120 hours / 10 months tuition
  • Part-time evening BEC Higher  (Business English Certificate) exam preparation course is also available on the same days: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18.30 – 20.00
